This week I attended Charlottesville’s Senior Networking Group – one of several such groups I participate in to keep informed about services available here. After the meeting there were bagels left over. Margaret Fitch – Program Coordinator for our local Senior Center – knew I was going to see on of our geriatric care management clients directly after the meeting and asked if I’d like to take her some bagels. Sure!
This client is marvelous, but she’s proud and usually refuses offers of assistance – even for grocery shopping and the like. We also have a hard time getting her to eat.
But she was so happy to have the bagels! I spoke with her this morning and she said “bless your heart for those bagels” and said she had eaten one for breakfast (insert sound of heavenly choir here!) and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Little miracles are so easy to accomplish but they need all of us to work together. I’m lucky to live in a community where we all look for ways to extend the kindness that is our true nature.
