Joyce has experienced first-hand the challenges of caring for aging loved ones; her parents each had their own challenges with aging. Joyce moved to Charlottesville in 1997 to be closer to her family home and after her mother’s death she helped care for her father, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. When it was time, she moved her father to the assisted living facility where she was working in marketing and admissions. Here Joyce interacted daily with the residents, their families, and facility staff.
Outside of geriatric care, Joyce worked in the Hospitality industry for many years and lived in interesting locations – Charleston SC, Maui HI, Snowmass CO, and Hilton Head Island SC. She settled in Charlottesville and is happy she did. For many years she led a team (walkers with their dogs) for the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk. In her spare time she enjoys Rivanna River cleanups and kayaking, gardening, hiking, travel, photography, and skiing.
Recently, Joyce sold her small hospitality business, Guesthouses. Now she works with Care is There. Joyce recognizes how stressful it can be to make decisions for the later years for yourself or for your loved ones and understands that help from professionals and experts is important. She can assist you in working with these experts and can be relied on to help you navigate through difficult situations.
