Jody, Elizabeth, and Kim
Every day, I have the privilege of helping Care is There clients, so they have the confidence to live their best lives. Recently, I had a truly inspiring and fun outing with a client, Jody Jenkins, and it’s these types of experiences that make working with Care is There clients so rewarding.
Jody, who no longer drives due to vision loss, has been a Care is There client for two years. I often accompany her to medical appointments and am available to help her whenever she needs any assistance in her day to day life. I had the opportunity to assist her on a very fun outing, with a very special purpose: to finally meet a friend.
Jody has been chatting with her friend, Elizabeth Hinton, once a week for several years, but they’ve never met in person. Elizabeth moved to Richmond, VA a few years ago, however various reasons kept the two from meeting. So, with the confidence provided by having Care is There on her side, Jody planned an outing to finally meet her long-time friend.
Of course, getting there can be a challenge. So, Jody reached out to me at Care is There for help to drive there. Jody and I drove to Richmond to pick up Elizabeth. Watching the two meet for the first time was so heartwarming. From their behavior, it was obvious they were ecstatic to finally meet in person, and that they were very close friends. One would have never known they had never laid eyes on each other before that day!
We spent the day at the Van Gogh Immersive Experience followed by lunch at Burton’s Grill & Bar. While at the experience, I remained close enough to the two friends so I could be available to help Jody whenever she needed, but allowed them the opportunity to enjoy the experience together.
What a fun day!
It was beautiful to see these two friends have the opportunity to finally interact in person. By having support in place, Jody was confident in planning the details of the entire trip. I’m honored that I was able to help give Jody that confidence, and also be a part of this wonderful experience.
