Generations Crossing provides day care for adults and children alike. In fact, their daily activities are often designed to incorporate both groups. The staff at Generations Crossing believe this interaction fosters positive, beneficial relationships that cross the generation barrier. Intergenerational Program Coordinator Lolly Miller oversees the activity plans for each day with the goal to promote social, physical, intellectual and emotional well-being through a high level of independence and a friendly, stimulating environment.
The average day for an adult participant at Generations Crossing is one that I sometimes wish were my daily schedule. It looks a little something like this:
- 7:30 a.m. Wake Up Time!
- 9:00 a.m. Morning Exercises
- 9:30 a.m. Breakfast
- 10:00 a.m. Activity (eg. Guest musician, Craft, Library)
- 12:00 p.m. Hot Lunch
- 12:30 p.m. Rest Time
- 2:30 p.m. Snack
- 3:00 p.m. Afternoon Activity (eg. Seated aerobics, Trivia, Bailey – the therapy dog)
- 5:30 p.m. Clean Up
Their current facility can accommodate 30 adults and up to 100 children. In addition to planned activities with the children, adult participants have access to on-site nursing staff, hot meals, medication reminders and direct medical care. The staff at Generations Crossing provides the adults in their care with the room to explore their personal independence, develop relationships with children, other participants and staff, and continue their personal growth.
Serving the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County communities, adult participants may attend Generations Crossings day care a few days each week, or every day. Visit their website or call them at 540-434-4901 for more information on their adult day care program.
