Is your elderly loved one being grouchy, sad, depressed, or argumentative? It’s likely that there is a very good reason, and that you can help your elderly loved one be happy!
Why Are They Being So Difficult?
There are many potential causes for the way your loved one feels, including medical issues like pain, medication effects, hormonal changes, and cognitive changes. There are lifestyle causes like isolation, lack of control, boredom, and frustration. There are psychological causes like personal loss and lack of purpose.
How Care is There Can Help
If You Live in Our Service Area
If you live in our service area of Charlottesville, Virginia and the surrounding counties and the Shenandoah Valley (Harrisonburg, Staunton, etc.) we can meet personally with you or your client/loved one, begin to identify the source of their distress, and work to find and implement solutions.
Because we live near your loved one and can see them often, we get to know them well. All our ongoing clients have their own Care is There Lifestyle Coordinator, and each Lifestyle Coordinator works with only a few clients, so a bond develops. We have the time to understand your loved one, recognize changes in their behaviour, and find opportunities to reconnect them with sources of joy they may have forgotten or abandoned.
We have helped our clients – even those with cognitive impairments and/or severe sensory or mobility constraints, to:
- Write memoirs
- Become models
- Have art shows
- Ride in a helicopter
- Vacation in the Caribbean
- And more
If your client or loved one has recently lost a spouse, moved, or been diagnosed with a new health problem, it’s especially important that they have an advocate to be their emotional champion and cheerleader. Contact us to see how we can help your loved one.
If your loved one is hesitant to accept assistance, they might be more open to our Just in Case service, in which we get to know your loved one so that if a need arises in the future, we’ll be there.
