Marie’s* family had been noticing an increase in her stress level as she dealt with the uncertainty of living alone. They were receiving frantic phone calls asking where they were, sometimes immediately after they had just left her house where they enjoyed a visit. After a family meeting, Marie’s family reached out to Kim Volker, President of Care is There, and asked for her help planning, arranging and implementing Marie’s move to a Senior Living community.
Kim met with the family to see exactly what they had in mind. She helped communicate with the Senior Living community and walked the family through the application process for Marie to move in. Then she took Marie to meet with a doctor to arrange the tests (physicals, medical, etc.) that Marie needed before her move.
On the day of the big move, Kim took Marie shopping, out to eat at a favored restaurant and generally just kept her busy while Marie’s family packed and moved Marie’s treasured furniture and nicknacks to her new home. They unpacked and arranged Marie’s treasures so that everything would be ready for her, all the while Kim and Marie were out having fun. This allowed Marie to feel right at home in her new room when Kim brought her there. Having everything she recognised arranged before her arrival made the transition a lot easier for her, and for her family.
Marie is adjusting well, making new friends and chatting with the Senior Living staff. And Marie’s family is happy knowing that there are staff nearby to respond if ever there is an emergency — or to simply provide company when Marie feels alone.
