Marta Keane has been named CEO of JABA (the Jefferson Area Board for Aging). Keane, who joined JABA as Chief Operating Officer (COO) this past October, will take over as CEO effective today.
“We conducted a nationwide search involving many qualified candidates,” says Dick Gibson, Chair of JABA’s Board of Directors. “The Board was unanimous in selecting Marta as our new CEO. Her leadership, passion, knowledge and vision made her the clear choice. We are confident she will be an excellent leader and will build on JABA’s many successes in the future. JABA will benefit by the fact that Marta was mentored by our former CEO, Gordon Walker, for almost six months before stepping into the CEO position, thereby ensuring a smooth transition of this key leadership role.”
Keane states, “The biggest challenge is to meet the needs of the growing population of seniors with the shrinking sources of revenue from local jurisdictions and state and federal funding due to sequestration. Focus on leveraging technology and developing new approaches to reaching out to seniors will help JABA continue to meet its mission in the years to come.”
Marta Keane is career-long healthcare industry professional with more than 26 years experience primarily focused on elders. Keane came to JABA from Encore Healthcare, LLC, where she was vice president of Rehab and Wellness. Prior positions include president of healthcare consulting firm, The Strategies Group, LLC, and region vice president, Contract Rehab Division for NovaCare, Inc.
A sought-after speaker and writer, Keane has been a guest lecturer at the University of Virginia and James Madison University; invited speaker for the American Society on Aging and the World Future Society, and at skilled nursing and assisted living facility conferences. She has been an invited author on elder issues for the Christian Science Monitor, among other publications.
Active with several industry organizations, Keane has served as chair of the Council on Professional Ethics of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association, and as president of both the Speech and Hearing Association of Virginia and the Communication Disorders Foundation of Virginia.
Keane completed Post Graduate work in Audiology at the University of Virginia, with minors in Business Management and Statistics. She also holds a M.Ed. in Speech-Language Pathology and B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from UVa, as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Strategic Foresight from the University of Houston.
