Are you concerned that someone you know may have difficulty hearing you? Hearing loss is often first recognized by loved ones, rather than the person themselves, and it can lead to social isolation if left untreated.
Dr. Kristin Koch, founder and audiologist at Evolution Hearing, encourages the Charlottesville community to bring in their loved ones when they see the signs. Especially since the hearing test and consultation are free of charge.
If you don’t know the signs of hearing loss, here are a few:
- Â Trouble understanding people when they are not facing you
- Â Difficulty picking out words when there is a lot of background noise (say by an interstate or in a busy restaurant)
- Â Ringing in the ears
- Â Muffled hearing (like someone has put cotton balls in your ears)
- Â Avoiding social interaction and conversation
- Â Listening to the radio or television at higher than average volumes
Founded in 2012, Evolution Hearing is an audiology clinic situated in Charlottesville, Virginia. Their goal is to provide the community with direct, convenient access to a doctor of audiology, hence the free hearing tests.
Evolution Hearing uses the latest in digital hearing aid technology, the newest diagnostic equipment and a variety of verification tool so that the best solution is found to suit each patient’s needs. Dr. Koch encourages her clients to bring a family member, friend or loved one with them to the consultation. This third-party opinion often sheds more light on any problems and provides a well-rounded story ensuring that the correct diagnosis and aid can be provided.
They also offer a wide range of hearing aids, Assisted Listening Devices (ADLs) and Hearing Protection Products to ensure that after the test, clients are able to continue a normal life and can hear all the sounds of nature.
In the following video, Dr. Koch gives a tour of her clinic to Care is There, giving us a peek inside the life of an audiologist.
